From an early age Robert developed a keen interest in gymnastics and while still at school became highly proficient in many gymnastic disciplines. Although excelling in this sport he did not find the competitive nature quite so appealing, far more enjoyable was the actual performance especially before an audience. Fuelled with an added interest in the stage and performing arts Robert naturally progressed into the world of circus where he was able to combine his strongest discipline, the Rings, with showmanship to create an exciting aerial act. For over a decade his 'Roman Rings' number was featured in many of Britain's leading circuses, from which continental engagements materialised taking him to France, Holland and Sweden. When invited back to England to Zippos award winning circus, Robert devised an entirely different routine on the 'Aerial Straps', with gruelling acrobatics performed with the consummate ease and grace that has become Robert's trademark. |
