Greg Milstein * ACA Managing Director *

Greg Milstein hails from Long Island, New York and has been a circus performer for over 25 years. After graduating from the famed Ringling Brothers, Barnum & Bailey Clown College, he began work in the variety entertainment industry of New York and Atlantic City, performing at such venues as the Taj Mahal, Harrah’s Marina, Trump Plaza and the Brooklyn Academy of Music. Greg’s travels with the circus have taken him to 20 countries around the world, including China, Russia, Germany, Japan, Latvia, Belgium, Singapore and the United Kingdom. He is a world class clown and was the first American artist to work in the Soviet State Circus ring (Moscow, Russia and Riga, Latvia), performing his eccentric comedy acts to standing ovations. Greg is also a talented unicyclist, juggler and ringmaster, as well as a highly accomplished circus arts educator. He was most recently the Executive Director of the National Circus Project of New York, the single largest circus education outreach company in the United States, reaching over 5 million students during his tenure. This is Greg’s second year as Managing Director of the Academy of Circus Arts. He is the school’s main comedy instructor and juggling coach, and also teaches unicycling, stilt-walking, balance, act development and technical production skills.

Ann Dorwin * ACA Training Director *

Ann Dorwin is originally from the Midwestern United States, but now makes her home in New York. She has been an aerialist for over 20 years, performing flying trapeze, single trapeze, web rope, cradle and ground acrobatics with a variety of circuses, at one point as the world’s only professional female catcher. Ann has performed with renowned aerial troupes, such as the Vargas, the Valentines, the Espanas and the Carillos, and at many prestigious venues, including the Royal Hanneford Circus, Cirque Espana, Festival Circus, Shrine Circus, the Moscow Circus Festival and Zippo’s Circus. She has spent the past decade teaching circus skills to youth and adult students at circus schools, summer camps, schools, universities and recreational facilities around the US. This is Ann’s third year with the Academy of Circus Arts, having acted as ACA Course Director in 1996 and developing their original degree program with the Royal Society of Arts. She is the school’s main aerial coach, and also instructs acrobatics and tumbling, diabolo, hoops, act development, presentation and production management skills.

Marianna Ionescu * ACA Artist Instructor *

Marianna Bratu was born in Bucharest, Romania and started her training with the state circus school there in 1987. An accomplished competitive gymnast, she began her professional circus career performing corde lisse, perch pole, tightwire and acrobatics. She married her circus-school sweetheart, Marius Ionescu, in 1992. Together they have performed aerial straps, hand-to-hand and comedy acrobatics, cradle and dance numbers for Circus Globus and the Romanian State Circus company. An accomplished choreographer, Marianna is the main dance and movement coach at ACA, and also teaches contortion, handbalance and presentation skills.

Marius Ionescu * ACA Artist Instructor *

Marius Ionescu is originally from Bucharest and studied for 3 years at the Romanian State Circus School there. He began his circus career as a horse vaultige artiste and has gone on to perform handbalance, acrobatics, flying trapeze and cradle. With his wife Marianna and sons Mikhail and Matei, Marius has performed in Switzerland, Germany, Poland, Arabia and England for the world-renowned Circus Globus of Romania. He currently performs in both a duo aerial straps routine and a trio handbalance adagio act. Marius is the main handbalance coach here at ACA, and also instructs acrobatics, tumbling, adagio and strength training.
